Our Funding Approach

We focus our giving on building and sustaining fairer and more just communities.  Our focus areas are designed to support initiatives that align with our core values of community, justice, impact, and integrity, driving positive social change through partnerships with organizations that create lasting, meaningful differences in the communities they serve.

Our Approach and How We Work

The Landau Family Foundation believes that the people closest to injustice hold deep wisdom about how to address it. Our philanthropic work is centered in this conviction and built around genuine inquisitive relationships with the individuals and organizations leading that work.

We focus on civic activism and the arts as engines of individual and collective transformation, particularly for communities historically harmed by racial, social, and economic injustice. We firmly believe at the heart of every movement, every arts education program, every act of civic courage are warriors, creatives, agitators, artists, and defenders of the public interest. These leaders guide youth, organizations, and communities toward a more just future, often at great personal cost to their safety, mental health, and economic well-being.

We don't just fund this work. We believe in it and trust it.

Who We Seek To Partner With

We're drawn to organizations and leaders who are rooted in community, led by and accountable to those most affected by injustice, and committed to systems change, not just short-term deliverables. We are particularly attentive to leaders and groups that larger funders have overlooked, and to those doing transformative work without the infrastructure or visibility that often attracts philanthropic dollars.

The  Foundation seeks to support organizations and their leaders through a set of unrestricted and general operating grants, aiming to sustain their mission, fortify their capacity, and strengthen community leaders and teaching artists to build a pipeline of future leaders who create lasting change. To advance these beliefs, the Foundation is establishing three grant funding streams that place the creatives, change agents, and their organizations at the center of our support.
